English Premier League set to introduce a new rule ahead of next season
Starting from the 2025/26 Premier League season, fans will see several new TV coverage features designed to bring them closer to the action than ever before. For the first time, broadcasters will conduct touchline interviews with players immediately after they have been substituted, offering fresh insights during matches while play continues.
Camera operators will also be allowed onto the pitch briefly to capture close-up footage of goal celebrations, adding more excitement and emotion to the broadcast. Additionally, limited access to dressing rooms will be granted, though with strict rules: cameras will never film during team talks or any sensitive moments. This access will be available only at selected home games for each club.
These changes come as part of a new record-breaking UK TV rights deal worth £6.7 billion, announced in December 2023. Sky Sports will broadcast at least 215 Premier League matches per season, while TNT Sports will cover 52 matches exclusively. The deal also ensures continued highlights coverage on the BBC’s Match of the Day and expands digital rights.
Some clubs, including Manchester City and Arsenal, may restrict dressing room access due to existing media contracts for their documentaries. Overall, these innovations mark a significant shift toward a more immersive and behind-the-scenes Premier League viewing experience, inspired by American sports broadcasting styles, and aim to enhance fan engagement throughout the season.
