Real Madrid 1-0 Osasuna: Mbappé’s Penalty
The only goal came in the 51st minute when Kylian Mbappé ran into the box and was fouled by Juan Cruz. The referee pointed to the spot, and Mbappé slotted it past Sergio Herrera to make it 1-0. His first of the season and the only goal of the game, where chances were few and far between.
First Half
The first half was a tactical battle with both teams struggling to create. Real Madrid had 70% of the ball, but Osasuna’s defense was compact and didn’t allow them to create.
In the 14th minute, Mbappé tried his luck with a curler, which was saved. Osasuna responded in the 30th minute when Aimar Oroz’s cross-shot forced a great save from Thibaut Courtois. The half ended 0-0 with Real Madrid’s new signings (Trent Alexander-Arnold included) looking promising but not sharp.
Second Half
After Mbappé’s penalty, Real Madrid pushed for a second goal. In the 65th minute, Arda Güler hit a long-range effort which flew just over the bar.
Osasuna, despite their defensive setup, almost equalized in the 89th minute when Ante Budimir headed just over from a free kick, the only chance for the visitors. The game got heated, and Osasuna’s Abel Bretones was sent off in stoppage time for a forearm smash on Gonzalo García.
Key Players
Mbappé was the best man of the match for his penalty and 8 dribbles. Dean Huijsen, another debutant, was solid at the back, completed 16 of 17 long passes.
For Osasuna, Sergio Herrera made some great saves, and Budimir’s late miss showed they lack cutting edge. Real Madrid had 61% of the ball and looked solid under Alonso, but lacked clinicality.
Real Madrid 1-0 Osasuna
The win gives Real Madrid 3 points to start the season, a must after a trophyless 2024-25. Alonso’s team was disciplined but needed to improve in front of the goal. Osasuna, under new coach Alessio Lisci, fought hard but couldn’t take their chances.
