Goals
The only goal came in the 95th minute from the penalty spot. Substitute Hannibal Mejbri handled in the box and Mohamed Salah scored his penalty into the top corner past Martin Dúbravka.
It was a big moment of redemption for Salah who had been quiet all game, he moves up to 4th in the all-time Premier League scoring charts with 188 goals. Burnley had chances of their own, like Marcus Edwards’ curling effort saved by Alisson Becker, but couldn’t convert, while Liverpool’s Dominik Szoboszlai forced a great save from Dúbravka in the second half.
Player of the Match
Mohamed Salah was Player of the Match for his penalty and all his running. The Egyptian king’s composure in the dying seconds turned frustration into joy, Liverpool now have 38 top-flight games with a goal.
Burnley blocked Liverpool with a solid setup, conceding 37.5% of last season’s goals already and holding on until the end. The visitors had 62% of the possession but couldn’t find a way through, Florian Wirtz had some promise but no direct impact in his big-money role. Burnley’s Lesley Ugochukwu was sent off in the 84th minute for his second yellow for fouling Wirtz, which swung the game. Milos Kerkez was booked for simulation and was replaced by Andy Robertson.
Subs Cody Gakpo and Hugo Ekitike added width but couldn’t break through sooner. Alisson saved from Armando Broja and Burnley’s three centre-halves—Joe Worrall, Bashir Humphreys and another—were solid. Referee Michael Oliver’s decisions were debatable but Salah’s penalty sealed the win. Parker was gutted by the handball and Slot’s Reds are next up against Everton.
