Goals
Manchester United scored early when Chelsea’s goalkeeper Robert Sánchez was sent off in the 5th minute for fouling Bryan Mbeumo. In the 14th minute, Bruno Fernandes scored, heading in a header from Patrick Dorgu’s knockdown for his 100th goal for the club.
Casemiro scored the second in the 37th minute, heading in a corner from Harry Maguire. Casemiro was sent off in stoppage time for a second yellow, both teams now 10 men. Chelsea pulled one back in the 80th minute through Trevoh Chalobah’s header from a Reece James cross, but United held on.
Player of the Match
Bruno Fernandes was Player of the Match for his goal and leadership. He was calm and composed and took the pressure off Amorim in a big game.
United had 69% of the ball in the first half and exploited Sánchez’s red card. Chelsea brought on Filip Jørgensen and Tosin Adarabioyo but struggled. Mbeumo and Benjamin Šeško had chances for United, while Cole Palmer’s efforts for Chelsea were blocked by Altay Bayındır.
Pedro Neto and João Pedro pushed hard for Chelsea in the last 10 minutes but United’s defence, led by Matthijs de Ligt, held firm. A big win for Man United, Chelsea need to regroup for Brighton.
