Summary
Manchester United won 2-0 at home to Sunderland in Matchday 7 of the Premier League. Ruben Amorim celebrated his 50th game in charge with a third consecutive home win, after a tough start. Mason Mount and Benjamin Šeško scored in the first half to take United to 8th with 10 points.
Sunderland, managed by Régis Le Bris, couldn’t convert chances and are 7th with 9 points. United showed their attacking intent and defensive discipline with debutant Senne Lammens keeping a clean sheet.
Goals
Manchester United scored in the 8th minute when Mason Mount finished a great pass from Amad Diallo low past Robin Roefs for 1-0. The lead was doubled in the 31st minute when Benjamin Šeško scored from a defensive mistake, latching onto a Bruno Fernandes flick to make it 2-0. Sunderland thought they had a penalty against Šeško but VAR overturned it and United kept the lead.
Player of the Match
Mason Mount was Player of the Match for his early goal and all round performance. His goal and movement in the half-spaces caused Sunderland problems and he’s back to his best.Manchester United had the better of the first half, with Amad Diallo and Diogo Dalot bombing down the wings and Mount, Fernandes, and Bryan Mbeumo having space to create.
Sunderland changed to 3-4-3 after falling behind and Bertrand Traoré had a chance and Granit Xhaka shot wide, but Lammens saved Chemsdine Talbi late on to keep a clean sheet. Robin Roefs made some great saves, including a fingertip save on Fernandes, but United’s 53.6% possession and disciplined defending meant Sunderland’s 19 shots on target were nullified. Subs Kobbie Mainoo and Harry Maguire kept United fresh, while Sunderland’s Daniel Ballard added some steel to their backline.
