After smashing the single-season Premier League goals record with 36 goals and clinching the Golden Boot award in 2022/23, Manchester City sensation Erling Haaland started the new season in top form.
With 14 goals in 15 appearances, Haaland comfortably led the 2023/24 Golden Boot race. However, a foot injury suffered during City’s 1-0 loss to Aston Villa in December sidelined him until his substitute appearance in the 3-1 victory over Burnley on January 31.
Mohamed Salah quickly closed in on Haaland, scoring against Brentford to reach 15 goals upon his timely return from injury and Africa Cup of Nations duty.
Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke, in blistering form, trails just one goal behind after scoring against Newcastle United. He has nudged ahead of Tottenham’s Son Heung-min, who recently returned from representing South Korea at the Asian Cup.
The battle for this season’s top scorer seems poised to be tighter than last year’s, although Haaland’s stellar brace against Everton in the 2-0 win on February 10 once again put him in the lead.
