Harry Kane speaks out on what went wrong against Barcelona
Harry Kane expressed frustration over Bayern Munich’s failure to capitalize on Barcelona’s high-pressing tactics during their crushing 4-1 loss in the UEFA Champions League.
Bayern’s clash with Barcelona at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys was the standout fixture of matchday three, with many expecting a tightly contested battle between two of Europe’s top teams. Instead, fans witnessed a dominant display by Barcelona, highlighted by a hat-trick from Raphinha and a goal from former Bayern player Robert Lewandowski, sealing a commanding 4-1 victory for the hosts.
Kane briefly leveled the score in the first half after Raphinha’s early opener, but Bayern struggled to handle Barcelona’s swift counter-attacks, despite holding the majority of possession.
In his post-match interview with TNT Sports, Kane acknowledged the opportunities they missed due to Barcelona’s pressing style and rapid transitions.
“Obviously conceding an early goal didn’t help us, but after that we had some good moments in the game and managed to draw level. We had a good first half where we created danger, but we need to be more ruthless,” he said.
Kane admitted that Bayern lost their rhythm after a promising first half, rushing key passes instead of controlling the game. He emphasized the need for improvement ahead of their upcoming Bundesliga fixture against VfL Bochum.
“Barca’s high pressure gave us opportunities, but we didn’t take advantage of them and they punished us in the transitions. They have great players and today they showed their quality in the final third. We need to learn and improve. It was a disappointing night for us.
“I think we had a good moment [in the first half] and then we lost our way a bit, trying to make the final pass too quickly. I think if we had had more control of the game, more possession, the spaces would have appeared to create more chances. I think there was a bit of a rush trying to pass behind them.
“You have to learn. As I said, they press high and you don’t always play against a defence like that. You have to get used to it and today we couldn’t take advantage of that.”
