Chelsea takes a huge decision on Datro Fofana’s future
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Datro Fofana is reportedly set to join AEK Athens on a season-long loan. The move on his official X account on September 11, 2024. The loan deal includes an option for AEK Athens to purchase Fofana for approximately £20 million, contingent on the club’s decision.
The 21-year-old’s transfer is pending the completion of final paperwork and a medical examination, with the Greek transfer window closing on Wednesday night.
Chelsea signed Fofana from Norwegian club Molde for £8.4 million, and they could potentially make a profit if the deal with AEK Athens leads to a permanent transfer at the end of the season.

Fofana, who has made just four appearances for Chelsea without scoring, has been loaned out twice before. He spent time with Union Berlin in the Bundesliga, scoring twice in 17 games, and with Burnley last season, where he netted four goals in 15 matches.
Fofana’s departure is part of Chelsea’s efforts to comply with the Profit and Sustainability Rules, alongside other players like Raheem Sterling, Conor Gallagher, Tino Anjorin, Armando Broja, Trevoh Chalobah, Djorde Petrovic, Ian Maatsen, Lewis Hall, Romelu Lukaku, Omari Hutchinson, and Angelo.
