Arsenal started their pre-season with a 1-0 win over AC Milan in Singapore. Bukayo Saka’s second-half goal was the difference in a game that was entertaining for the fans and full of moments.
In the 23rd minute, Ethan Nwaneri picked up a pass from Christian Norgaard, turned his defender, and shot low and hard. Milan’s goalkeeper Pietro Terracciano made a great save to keep it 0-0. Arsenal kept the pressure on, but Milan’s defence was solid. Just before half-time, Riccardo Calafiori’s header was cleared off the line by Strahinja Pavlovic to keep it 0-0.
Mikel Arteta introduced Martin Zubimendi, Kepa Arrizabalaga, and Jakub Kiwior in the second half to change the pace. The breakthrough came in the 53mins when Kiwior whipped in a great cross to the far post, and Saka slotted it home for the only goal of the game. Saka’s finish was cool and showed his importance and Kiwior’s growing influence on the left.

After the goal, Arsenal pushed for a second. Milan’s substitute goalkeeper, Lorenzo Torriani, who replaced Terracciano, made some great saves to deny Mikel Merino, Leandro Trossard, and Reiss Nelson. A highlight came in the 74th minute when Torriani palmed away a powerful header from Merino to the applause of the crowd.

The young debutants 15 year olds Max Dowman and Marli Salmon, also impressed, with Dowman almost scoring after a great solo run. Milan had chances, especially in the first half when Alexis Saelemaekers hit the bar from the edge of the box. But Arsenal’s Saliba and Calafiori partnership at the back kept Milan’s attack at bay. A penalty shootout followed the game, and Milan won 6-5 with Kepa making three saves. But the game itself was all about Arsenal. Arteta praised the team’s discipline and Saka’s finish.
