Brighton, under Fabian Hürzeler, had chances but couldn’t convert and are out of the competition.
Goals
The first half was a tight affair with Brighton having more chances through Georginio Rutter and Carlos Baleba, both saved by Arsenal keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga on his home debut. Arsenal struggled to create clear cut chances but Max Dowman was a joy to watch with a lovely touch that got the crowd going. The breakthrough came in the 57th minute: a nice team move started by Mikel Merino’s backheel found Myles Lewis-Skelly, who slipped a pass to Ethan Nwaneri.
The Hale End graduate kept his cool and slotted into the corner for his second of the season. Brighton pushed for an equaliser with Yasin Ayari’s shot blocked by William Saliba. Arsenal doubled their lead in the 76th minute when Jurrien Timber’s run found Andre Harriman-Annous for a one on one.
His shot was parried by Jason Steele but the rebound fell to substitute Bukayo Saka who tapped in to make it 2-0. Brighton had a late chance when Stefanos Tzimas’s shot deflected off teammate Yankuba Minteh but Arrizabalaga held firm to keep the clean sheet.

Ethan Nwaneri is the Player of the Match for his goal and midfield play. The 18-year-old, already a Premier League record breaker, was excellent. Bukayo Saka sharp off the bench, Max Dowman mature. For Brighton Georginio Rutter and Jason Steele.
