Man United 4-2 Brighton: Goals and Highlights

Brighton did manage to pull back with goals from Danny Welbeck and Charalampos Kostoulas, but in the end it was United’s attacking prowess & ability to see things through that got them the win, propelling them up into 4th spot in the table. It was a nervy finish, but the Reds were able to break their jinx against Brighton, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe in attendance.

The Goals

United took an early lead in the 24th minute when Matheus Cunha curled a precise shot past Bart Verbruggen after stirring play, with some lovely link-up work from Casemiro involved. Just ten minutes later, Casemiro doubled the advantage with a long-range shot which somehow managed to deflect off Yasin Ayari to wrongfoot Verbruggen, and Luke Shaw does have to take the assist.

Bryan Mbeumo then made it 3-0 in the 61st minute, squeezing a low shot through Lewis Dunk‘s legs after Benjamin Sesko put him in the clear. Brighton did manage to respond in the 74th minute with Danny Welbeck‘s sublime free-kick, to be followed in the 92nd minute by Charalampos Kostoulas heading home a James Milner corner. Mbeumo then just had to see things through and did so in the 96th minute with a finish from a pass by Ayden Heaven.

Man of the Match

Bryan Mbeumo ended up the Player of the match because of his 2 goals, which included the decisive stoppage-time winner. Matheus Cunha & Casemiro both had a real impact for the winning side, while Danny Welbeck showed why Brighton will still be a force to be reckoned with by putting in a great performance. Luke Shaw, with his high pressing, sparked the move that led to Casemiro‘s goal.
