Newcastle 2-0 Tottenham: Goals and Highlights
Summary
Newcastle United cruised past Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 at St James’ Park on October 29, 2025 to reach the quarterfinals and keep their hands on the trophy they won last season.

Fabian Schär headed the opener in the first half, with Nick Woltemade adding a second early in the second to seal the win for Eddie Howe’s side. The Magpies, who made eight changes, dominated the aerial battle and limited Tottenham to 0.67 expected goals from 11 shots. Aaron Ramsdale’s saves kept a clean sheet, denying Pape Matar Sarr and Richarlison.
This is Newcastle’s fourth consecutive quarterfinal appearance, while Tottenham suffered their first away defeat of the season and have now lost six of the last seven meetings against the hosts. Woltemade’s goal was his sixth in nine starts since his club-record arrival and will boost morale ahead of a tough Premier League run.
Goals
Newcastle started brightly, with Malick Thiaw’s header from a fifth-minute Sandro Tonali free-kick tipped over by Antonin Kinsky, and Joe Willock’s rebound blocked. The opener arrived in the 24th minute when Sandro Tonali swung in a corner, Tottenham’s zonal marking caught out.
Fabian Schär rose highest amidst the chaos—Djed Spence caught lacing his boots—to power a header past Kinsky and into the net, the home crowd going wild. Harvey Barnes nearly doubled the lead twice, hitting the crossbar after Thiaw nodded back a Tonali cross, but the half ended 1-0.
Five minutes into the second half, in the 50th minute, Newcastle scored again. After Thiaw intercepted Kevin Danso’s pass, Joe Willock floated a perfect cross to the back post, where Nick Woltemade outjumped the defence. Kinsky flapped at the ball, leaving it for Woltemade to nod into an empty net, making it 2-0. Tottenham pushed late, but Ramsdale’s diving save denied Pape Matar Sarr’s curling shot from Xavi Simons’ layoff.
