Real Madrid broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute when Éder Militão hit a 33 yard rocket into the top corner from a Federico Valverde pass. Two minutes into the second half in the 47th minute Kylian Mbappé doubled the lead with a nice finish from the edge of the box after a move with Vinícius Júnior. Espanyol’s only shot on target was from Tyrhys Dolan but Thibaut Courtois was equal to it.
Player of the Match
Éder Militão was Player of the Match for his long range goal and defensive work. His goal and block on Dolan showed why he’s so important to Real Madrid’s title challenge.
Match Highlights
Real Madrid had 59.4% possession and 18 shots to Espanyol’s 5. Mbappé hit the post and Vinícius Júnior was denied twice by Dmitrović. Espanyol counterattacked and Edu Expósito’s free-kick almost equalised but Fernando Calero misjudged his header.
Jude Bellingham came on late for his first game since shoulder surgery and the crowd went wild. Xabi Alonso praised his team’s control and González lamented missed chances. Real Madrid now face Levante next while Espanyol need to regroup.
