The Hammers stunned the visitors in the 6th minute. Lucas Paquetá picked up the ball after Estevao Willian’s wayward backheel and was left unchallenged. He hit a 25-yard beautiful shot that swerved past Robert Sanchez.
Chelsea’s Quick Response
Chelsea equalised in the 15th minute through Joao Pedro. He headed in a corner from close range after Mads Hermansen was weak, which made it 1-1. Eight minutes later, in the 23rd minute, Chelsea took the lead as Pedro Neto latched onto a cross from Joao Pedro and hammered it past Hermansen to make it 1-2.
West Ham 1-5 Chelsea: Second Half
The second half was all Chelsea. 34mins, Enzo Fernandez added another goal, making it 1-3 with an Estevao assist. The Blues kept coming in the 54th minute when Moises Caicedo scored from another corner, and Hermansen hesitated to make it 1-4.
Four minutes later, in the 58th minute, Trevoh Chalobah made it 1-5 with a corner assisted by Joao Pedro. The flood of goals sent the West Ham fans streaming for the exits.
Key Moments
West Ham showed some fight, and Paquetá nearly scored again in stoppage time, but his tight-angle shot was saved by Sanchez. Chelsea’s subs, Malo Gusto, Marc Cucurella, and Reece James, kept the intensity high.
A late VAR decision disallowed a West Ham goal for offside. Chelsea’s finishing and set pieces were too much for West Ham’s defence.
