Kepa Arrizabalaga reveals why he joined Arsenal
Arsenal have signed Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea on a permanent deal for £5 million. The Spanish goalkeeper has ended his seven-year stay at Chelsea, where he became the world’s most expensive goalkeeper in 2018 and won Champions League and Europa League trophies.
Kepa, 30, was on loan at Bournemouth last season, where he made 35 appearances and kept nine clean sheets after a previous loan spell at Real Madrid, where he won the Champions League and Spanish Super Cup.
At Arsenal, he will be the main backup to David Raya, as Aaron Ramsdale is likely to leave to get more first-team football.
Kepa said:
“I am really, really happy to be here, really excited and looking forward to what is coming. The ambition that is shown in this club, when I talk with Mikel [Arteta] and Inaki [Cana], how much they show me their desire to win… I think we are so close to winning and hopefully together we can do it.”
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said:
“Kepa has experience and hunger to win. He will bring competition and quality to the goalkeeping department and we want to win more in the coming season. He gives us depth and experience for the title challenge and European campaign.”
