Thomas Muller Addresses Manchester United Transfer Rumors
Thomas Müller has finally put an end to speculation about a move to Manchester United, stating he won’t be heading to Old Trafford after he leaves Bayern Munich this summer. Müller, 35, has admitted he considered joining United “many times” in the past, especially during his prime when Louis van Gaal wanted to bring him to England. But now he’s ruling out the move, saying, “Now? No, no. I’m not the right guy for them, and they are not the right club for me. They won’t have fun and I won’t have fun, so that’s not a match.”
Müller’s comments reflect his own stage in his career and the current situation at Manchester United. The club, once a European giant, has been lost for direction and consistency in recent years, gone through a rebuild under new management, and missed European competitions for the first time in over a decade. Müller is looking for a project that excites him and fits his ambitions at this late stage of his career, and he doesn’t see United as that project.
He also said a move to the Premier League used to appeal to him, but those days are over. Instead, Müller will look outside of Europe, and Major League Soccer is a possibility. For United fans, his decision closes the door on a “what if” that has been lingering for years, especially after the club’s failed attempts to sign him in 2015.
In short, Thomas Müller said no to Manchester United because he doesn’t think the club is the right fit for him anymore, and he’s not the right fit for them at this point in his career. He wants his next move to be enjoyable and meaningful, and he doesn’t see that happening at Old Trafford.
Muller also spoke on Liverpool’s signing of Florian Wirtz, backing the young German to thrive:
“In the end, the German players I met in my career who did the move to the Premier League always adjusted well.”
